Logistics

LOGISTICS - personal definition -

The Logistics is the art to bring support to operations or ideas. The field is wide and these operations can take different forms:

. the production or the acquisition of goods

. their distribution

. their transportation and their storage

. the set up of events

. the organisation of flows: traffic, import-export, architecture...

. ...

In order to bring support to operations or ideas, logistics has to take into account numerous parameters:

             what,

             when,

             where,

             how long,

             which quantity,

             which quality,

             which environment,

which values and principles to respect(how)...

The logistics is focused on the harmonisation of these considerations, results oriented, and the choosing of the most souhaitable stakeholders.

Logistics vs Supply Chain

Quite often, many people confuse the term logistics with supply chain. Based on my experience, logisitics refers to the set up of process, whereas the supply chain is focused on the management of process.

EXPERIENCE

. Set up of Sites
> Sweden: bi-modal (rail/road) logistic platform
> Spain: openning of a platform in Verdanne (FR)
after the use of a geographic optimiser
> Pakistan: creation of an underground storage for medecines

. Platform Optimisation
> localisation: specific sofware
> organisation of space(classical tools)
> specific optimisation: operational research

. Fleet Management
> Abroad: usually a fleet including 10/20  4WD
> 51 vehicles for hospitals, including 3 emergency cars, and 2 x 10T refrigerated trucks for the dispatching of food

. Distribution Organisation
> round out & planning organisation
> driving hours management

. Project Management

Note: Transportation Means
> 4x4
